This feature is in private beta. It is only available to stores that iAdvize has added to the beta. To take part, contact your iAdvize CSM.
Does a market of your Shopify store serve several languages, for example store.com/es/ and store.com/it/? You can give each language its own Assistant, which answers with the translated catalogue. You enable it from the iAdvize app, in your Shopify admin.
What enabling a language creates
Everything is created in the iAdvize project linked to the market. For Spanish, for example:
-
A translated catalogue: a knowledge base called “Shopify catalog (es)”. It uses the titles and descriptions translated in Shopify, with links to the
/es/pages. A product with no translation keeps the text of your main language. - An Assistant for the language: a new Assistant, created with the default texts in Spanish. Its name ends with “(es-ES)”. It answers with the Spanish catalogue and with the FAQ knowledge bases of your main Assistant, written in your main language.
- Starters: two starter notifications, one for product pages and one for category pages. They use the placement of your main starters when those are all placed in the same spot.
-
Targeting rules: “Product pages (es-ES)”, active, shows the language Assistant on
/es/product pages. “Category pages (es-ES)” is created inactive. Your main rules are excluded from/es/pages, except the checkout rule. -
Widget language: the widget shows in Spanish on
/es/pages. Other pages do not change.
Before you start
- Your store is part of the beta. Otherwise, the Languages section does not show on the Markets page.
-
Your languages are subfolders of your domain (
store.com/es/,store.com/it/). A language served on another domain cannot be enabled. - The Assistant speaks the language. A language it does not speak cannot be enabled.
- The market is active and linked to the right iAdvize project. The language Assistants are created in this project, whose name shows to the right of the market name.
- A language can be on for one market per project only.
- Your Shopify account can manage apps. The first activation asks for access to your store’s translations.
Enable a language
- In your Shopify admin, open the iAdvize app, then the Markets page.
- Under the market, in Languages, tick the language, then click Save in the bar at the top of the screen.
A language that cannot be enabled shows the reason instead of the checkbox. - The first time, Shopify asks for access to your store’s translations. Accept. Without this access, the language stays off.
- Follow the status next to the language (see below). Setup takes up to a minute per language.
- Wait for the “Shopify catalog (es)” knowledge base to fill in your iAdvize admin. How long this first sync takes depends on the size of your catalogue.
- Run the checks described below.
- For the next language, start again from step 2.
Language statuses
- Setting up: the language Assistant is being created.
- Assistant ready: the language Assistant is in place. It is on or off, like your main Assistant.
- Main rules still show: your main rules still show on the language pages. The app asks for your approval before changing them: click Stop my main rules there. Otherwise, your visitors see sometimes the main Assistant, sometimes the language one.
- Setup failed: the message names the step that failed. Click Retry. If it fails again, send the message shown to your CSM.
- Changed path: the language URL changed in Shopify. Click Retry.
Check a language
On your live site, in a private browsing window, for each language:
- On a product page of the language, the widget and starters are in the right language.
- The language Assistant answers, not the main Assistant.
- Product cards in the conversation are translated.
- A product link sent by the Assistant opens the page in the right language (
/es/…). - On a page in your main language, nothing changes.
• At checkout, the main Assistant answers, in every language.
• On a category page of the language, no starter shows: the “Category pages (es-ES)” rule is created inactive. Enable it in your iAdvize admin to show starters on these pages.
After enabling a language
You create a new targeting rule
It also shows on the pages of enabled languages. To exclude it, untick the language, click Save, tick it again, then click Save again. All your main rules get back the condition that excludes them from the language pages.
You edit the main Assistant or its starters
Changes are not carried over to the language Assistants. Make them on each one too.
Visitor language in your rules
On the pages of an enabled language, the visitor language is the page language. A “visitor language = French” rule therefore does not apply on /es/ pages.
Before linking the market to another project, disable its languages. Otherwise, their Assistants and rules stay active in the previous project.
Disable a language
Untick the language, then click Save. The status changes to Switching off, then Assistant off.
- The language catalogue is no longer synced.
- The language Assistant and its two rules are disabled.
- Your main rules show again on the language pages.
Nothing is deleted: if you tick the language again, you get the same Assistant, knowledge base and rules back. If the status shows Switch-off failed, click Retry.
