This guide explains how to connect your Shopify store to iAdvize to activate the AI Shopping Assistant on your e-commerce site in just a few clicks.
You will find the installation details, the synchronized product fields, as well as the limitations and important points to be aware of.
Installation
If you’re starting our free trial offer, click “Connect with Shopify”
This button will automatically open the iAdvize app page on the Shopify App Store.
Otherwise,
- Sign in to your Shopify Admin.
- Go to the Shopify App Store by clicking here.
- Click Install.
💡 Information
By default, the iAdvize integration retrieves data from the store's primary market.
If you link another Shopify market to an iAdvize project (during installation or from the app's Markets page), that project's catalog is synchronized with that market's prices. A market you haven't linked uses the assistant and prices of the default project, unless you turn the assistant off there.
Authorize iAdvize to access your store's product and variant data, then click Install:
Connect to your iAdvize account
The first installation step is to connect the iAdvize account where you want to install the app.
Click Connect to iAdvize to continue:
An email was previously sent to you to create a password and activate your iAdvize account.
Enter your credentials and sign in:
Note: Choose which Shopify markets to enable iAdvize on, and link each one to an iAdvize project (site). The primary market is checked by default. Once the app is set up, you can link more markets, or change their projects, on the Markets page.
If the list of markets does not appear, the app offers a single project for the whole store (the first one is preselected): your store can then only be linked to one iAdvize project. To change the project, uninstall and reinstall the app.
Click the Link projects button (or Link project when a single project is offered) to continue:
Once the projects are linked, the product catalog sync starts automatically in the background. Details are in the “Product catalog synchronization and transaction tag” section below.
Activate your Shopping Assistant
Step 1: Turn on the iAdvize tag on your store
This first step installs the main tag and the custom data on your Shopify store.
Go to the online store customization page using the provided link. A new window will open with the currently used Shopify theme.
In this new window, make sure of the following:
- The iAdvize tag option is enabled in the shop theme.
Still from the App Embeds → iAdvize Tag menu, you can answer the question How would you like iAdvize to load and appear on your store? in the Cookie consent section to adapt the tag's behavior to your consent management system (CMP).
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Country-based loading (default) | The tag loads without waiting for consent on stores based in the United States. For stores located in other countries, loading is conditional on the user's consent via the native Shopify banner. If the Shopify consent API is not available on the store, the tag loads without waiting for consent. |
| Shopify cookie banner | The tag only loads if the user has given their consent via the native Shopify banner, regardless of the store's location. Use this if the Shopify banner is your sole consent management system. |
| External consent tool | The tag loads without waiting for the Shopify consent signal. Use this if your external CMP already handles script loading independently, without going through the Shopify consent API. |
| Installed outside Shopify | The tag remains inactive via the Shopify app. iAdvize must be loaded independently, through an external tag manager (e.g. Tealium, Google Tag Manager). |
- Click the Save button at the top right to apply changes.
After saving the changes, close that tab to return to the installer.
Then click the Next step button to continue.
Note: You can enable the iAdvize tag on multiple themes, for example if you frequently switch your shop theme. To do this, customize the desired theme in the online store, select the "App Embeds" menu on the left, enable the "iAdvize tag" option and click Save to update the theme.
Step 2: Show the Assistant on the checkout and thank you pages
This second step displays your Assistant on the checkout and thank you pages.
For other plans, the chat can only be integrated on the Thank You page.
To continue, click the provided link to open the customization section. This will open a new tab with the currently used Shopify theme.
In the new tab you must:
- Click the “+” button in the iAdvize Tag section.
- Select the page where to activate the iAdvize tag: Checkout.
- Click the Save button at the top right to apply the changes.
- Click the “+” button in the iAdvize Tag section again.
- Select the page where to activate the iAdvize tag: Thank You Pages.
- Click the Save button at the top right to apply the changes.
Once the tag is enabled on both pages and changes are saved, you can close that tab to return to the installer.
Then click the Next step button to continue.
Note: You can activate the iAdvize Assistant on multiple themes, especially if you frequently change your shop theme.
To do so, customize the desired theme of your online store. Select the App Embeds menu on the left. Then enable the iAdvize tag option, choose the desired page (Checkout and/or Thank You), and click Save to update your theme.
Step 3: Add your store pages as a knowledge source
This final step lets you choose which web pages of the store will be used to create a Helpful Content knowledge source.
Select as many pages as needed, but only those containing useful content (FAQ, guides, tips, etc.). Avoid selecting product-specific information to ensure the Assistant functions correctly.
Select the desired pages, then click the Finish app installation button to finalize the installation.
App homepage
Once the installation is complete, the app homepage appears. It allows you to review the features configured during the installation and adjust them:
- Settings: the status of each feature. The Manage button on the “Empower your AI Shopping Assistant with product data” row opens the Product data page.
- iAdvize tag on your live theme: shows whether the tag is turned on in your live theme (Active, Turned off or Not added) and opens the theme editor.
- Markets: the number of markets covered by your Assistant. The Manage button opens the Markets page. If a market is not linked to an iAdvize project, a Link markets banner appears at the top of the page.
- Tax-inclusive prices: only shown if your store prices are tax-exclusive. Enter your VAT rate (above 0, up to 100) so the Assistant displays tax-inclusive prices, or leave the field empty to keep prices unchanged. If you sell in several markets, VAT rate per market lets you set a different rate per market: 0 for a market with no VAT, empty to use your store rate.
One last step is required:
- Configure and activate your widget in your iAdvize space: https://ha.iadvize.com/admin/
Product catalog synchronization and transaction tag
After connecting to iAdvize, the synchronization of the product catalog starts automatically in the background, without further action.
At the same time, a knowledge source titled "Shopify knowledge source" will be created in iAdvize.
Additionally, the transaction tag will be automatically implemented on checkout pages via the Shopify Web Pixel extension.

Only what you select on the app’s Product data page is shared with iAdvize: metafields (from the variant and the product), metaobjects, tags and collections. After the first sync, the metafields found in your catalog are preselected, except technical metafields. Metaobjects, tags and collections are only shared if you select them. Selected metafields, tags and collections are added in iAdvize as “product details”. |
Manage your markets
Open the Markets page with the Manage button of the Markets block on the app homepage. It lists your Shopify markets and the iAdvize project linked to each one.
- One row per market and currency: a market whose countries pay in several currencies gets one row per currency. Each row links to its own iAdvize project: one project cannot serve two rows.
- Badges: Primary for the store’s primary market, Covered for a market linked to a project, New for a market you had not seen on this page yet, Inactive in Shopify for a market turned off in Shopify. A market with no project shows Uses followed by the name of your default project, or Assistant off.
- Link a project: Add button on the market row (Change or Remove once a project is linked). The project’s catalog then gets the prices and currency of that market. During the catalog sync, a product excluded from that market’s Shopify catalog is not sent to the project.
- Market with no project: the row’s AI Shopping Assistant list offers Use followed by the name of your default project, or No assistant. With No assistant, iAdvize does not load for that market’s countries, neither on the site nor at checkout.
- On your site: the Assistant follows the visitor’s country and loads the project linked to their market.
- At checkout: on the checkout and thank you pages, the chat opens on the project of the shipping country as soon as the buyer enters it, then keeps that project even if the country changes.
- Sales: each sale is sent to the project the buyer had while browsing the site, with priority to the one of the order’s country.
Choose the product data you share
Open the Product data page from the app menu, or with the Manage button on the “Empower your AI Shopping Assistant with product data” row of the app homepage. Only what you select on this page is shared with iAdvize.
- Metafields: product and variant metafields. Those added by SEO, review or feed apps are hidden; the Show … hidden fields link displays them.
- Metaobjects: content your products link to, like a size guide. To share them, click Allow access to metaobjects and confirm the permission Shopify asks for. Selecting a metafield that points to a metaobject also selects that metaobject type.
- Tags: each selected tag is added to the details of the products that carry it. Leave out internal tags, like supplier codes.
- Collections: the name of each selected collection is added to the details of its products, for example to say that a product is a best-seller.
- Field mapping · Advanced: if your sale price or sizes are stored in a metafield, choose it here. By default, the sale price comes from Shopify’s compare-at price and sizes from the Size or Taille variant option. Only a metafield selected above can be chosen.
The See what your AI Shopping Assistant knows about a product block shows, read-only, the record your Assistant holds for a product. Click Choose a product, then pick the variant if needed (Variant) and, when several markets are linked to a project, the market to look at (Market). Each empty field says why it is empty. If the Assistant has no record for a draft or archived product, a message says so: only active products are synced.
Custom data management
The iAdvize app for Shopify automatically creates certain custom data by default (product_id, page_type).
If you wish to add additional custom data, you can edit your Shopify theme and use the method described on our developer platform.
You must then declare these custom data in the iAdvize admin.
Checkout page: specificities
On the payment and order confirmation pages, the iAdvize application automatically deploys a Chat component via the Shopify checkout extension. This deployment is subject to several Shopify-imposed constraints, detailed below.
Chat slot availability
Shopify only allows one extension to occupy the checkout chat area at a time. If another application is already using this slot, the iAdvize Chat component will not appear on the payment and order confirmation pages.
If the iAdvize Chat component does not appear on checkout pages, check in your Shopify Admin → Checkout → Extensions interface that no other application is already occupying the chat area. If so, disable it to allow iAdvize to deploy.
For more information on this constraint, refer to the official Shopify documentation.
Conversation continuity
To ensure conversation continuity between your store and the checkout pages, third-party cookies must be enabled in the visitor's browser.
Widget design and display
The widget displayed on checkout is standardised by Shopify: its design and label ("Message us") cannot be customised.
In addition, a classic chatbox is displayed on these pages: the Shopping Panel is not available in the checkout context.
Updating your knowledge base
You don’t need to take any action in iAdvize: your knowledge base is automatically synchronized with your Shopify store. Simply make sure your information is up to date in Shopify.
The update runs daily, ensuring that your Assistant always has access to the most recent information from your catalog and useful content.
